Along with the rest of the performing arts world, The Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company came to an abrupt halt when the Covid-19 pandemic hit in March of 2020. Sadly, the final curtain came down just two nights before the scheduled opening of The Pirates of Penzance.

It was not an entirely dry period, however, Mid-pandemic, we decided to catch up with characters from our favorite Gilbert & Sullivan productions. Director Shane Valenzi chatted with them while they were stuck in Zoomland. You can see how they were adjusting to pandemic life in this short virtual event.

Characters from Ruddigore, Princess Ida, Iolanthe, The Mikado, The Pirates of Penzance, Patience, H.M.S. Pinafore… and a special royal appearance are featured, followed by the ensemble singing Hail Poetry!

Fortunately, all of our 2020 Pirates production was not lost. We were able to record the dress rehearsal in full costume at the end of tech week. You are invited to enjoy the encore below.

Or, better yet, mark your calendars for March 4th, 5th and 6th 2022 when a revamped and reinvigorated production of The Pirates of Penzance returns to Mandel Hall!
